It’s easy to say you’re going to shoot a short film, but it’s not always that easy. You probably need a cast, a crew, locations, and equipment.
There are certainly resources we share (including places to rent gear, places to stay, grub to eat) and the cities of Shreveport and Bossier City make available lists of film-friendly locations, but that doesn’t truly unlock all we have to offer. For example, there aren’t many private homes listed for shooting locations. But we’ll come back to that.
To find cast, there are two talent agencies exist in Shreveport. The first is Landrum Arts LA, a national agency representing artists from New York to Los Angeles. The other is a dedicated and rising agency called Darcel Moreno Talent. Of course, there are talents that are unrepresented, and those looking to break into the industry, so don’t limit yourself only to agencies if you are looking for new blood. Be sure to prepare your breakdowns and sides so the agency can properly provide suggestions for talent.
For crew, the best way to hire is by word of mouth. Once you hire one member of the crew, odds are they know someone that can fill another position, and on down the line. Be sure to ask anyone already working on your crew (or in your cast) for suggestions of people they have worked with in the past. If you have trouble finding crew to start, keep reading.
To find cast, crew, and non-commercial or non-public locations, we always advise filmmakers to use our Page on Facebook. Post your needs, your calls for cast, gear you need to rent. With over 40,000 followers and an extremely active community, we see the magic of sharing resources and knowledge every day. It doesn’t take long reading our page to find an example of another filmmaker doing just that, and you can model your post after others that are successful.
Be sure to include a method of contacting you, instructions on what to send, what dates your filming and what compensation may be offered.
Then, if you have a need unfilled by the means above, reach out to us, and we will do our best to point you in the right direction to make the connections you need to make your short film Prize-tactic!
